Being the first is one record that will never be surpassed and only the very few among us can boast of holding such a claim.
Well, for 16-year-old Kasey-Ann Edwards she will forever hold the unbreakable distinction of being the first person to benefit from the Dr Kurt Waul Foundation.
The Dr Kurt Waul Foundation was formally established on June 30, 2022 as a non-profit organization to attend to the well-being of Jamaicans most in need.
Shortly after it the Foundation was incorporated at the Companies Office of Jamaica, its Founder, Dr Kurt Waul was touched by the appeal made by a family friend of Edwards.
The appeal was made via voicenote and posted in a few whatsapp groups seeking urgent help for Kasey-Ann, a Fifth Form student at Innswood High School.
“She needed a laptop,” said Dr Waul. “So I immediately reached out to my team to source one for her. Kasey-Ann lives in a home that isn’t any position to help her the way they would like, and so our intervention in this regard is of absolute necessity. We want to give her the best opportunity to succeed. But for that to happen she needs the right tools that will increase her chances of succeeding in her exams.”
A couple weeks later after the appeal, Dr Waul visited Kasey-Ann at her home in the Bowers district of Old Harbour to present her with a brand new laptop.
A most timely gift for the shy and soft-spoken teenager, who has big dreams of becoming a pediatrician one day, was full of gratitude.
“I would like to extend gratitude and many thanks to Dr Kurt Waul for the donation of a laptop to my niece. I am grateful for the help,” said Kasey-Ann’s aunt, Trishana Hutchinson.
As a general practitioner himself, Dr Waul offered some very useful study tips and motivation to our first individual recipient.
The Dr Kurt Waul Foundation is a registered charity in Jamaica providing social and economic assistance to the less fortunate. The Foundation is centered on the pillars of Health, Education, Entrepreneurship and Social Development.
